Hong Kong Airlines will give away 1,000 free tickets on four of its new routes at an in-person giveaway at Fashion Walk in Causeway Bay on August 26 and 27, from 11am-9pm.

Passengers will not have to pay airfare on their tickets, but they will have to bear the costs of any applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges. All tickets will include 20 kilos of check-in luggage.

The carrier launched four new flights from Hong Kong to Beijing Daxing, Fukuoka, Phuket, and Nagoya earlier this year.

The giveaway, called ‘New Routes Highlight & Ticket Grabber’, will begin with an opening ceremony on August 25, and will be open to the public for the next two days.

There will be four zones at the Fashion Walk Atrium. The highlight is the Giant Ticket Grabber, where participants can win air tickets. Tokens to take part in this event will be distributed at 9am on August 26 and 27 on a first-come-first-served basis.

There will also be installations designed by illustrator Jane Lee at a zone called Paterson Street Photo Avenue, at which visitors can take pictures and upload them to social media to win prizes.

Kids can get in on the action too at the Mini Aircrew Dress-Up Room, where they can try on pilot or flight attendant uniforms to get a sense of what it’s like to be an aircrew member. Participants can also collect aviation-themed souvenirs at the Giant Gashapon Machine.

This is the third airline ticket giveaway that the airline has organised for Hong Kong residents. The carrier previously organised two rounds of online distribution drives to destinations in Mainland China and Asia, as part of its Click & Go campaign.

In July, Hong Kong Airlines gave away 6,800 tickets to Osaka, Chongqing, Bali, Sapporo, and Shanghai Hongqiao. Earlier this month, the carrier distributed 9,800 tickets to Bangkok, Sanya, Beijing Daxing, Hangzhou, Nagoya, Nanjing, and Seoul.

The giveaway campaigns are part of the Hello Hong Kong initiative spearheaded by the government to encourage tourists to visit the city and Hongkongers to undertake international travel.

The main attraction of the Hello Hong Kong programme are the 500,000 free tickets that the city four passenger airlines — Cathay Pacific, HK Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines — are giving to tourists. There are also 80,000 tickets meant for Hong Kong residents to use to travel abroad.
