Travel right now is complicated, to say the least; borders open and close, testing requirements change, and flights are less than reliable. So, what we’re doing is looking ahead – hopefully not too far ahead! – to a time when the pandemic is behind us, or at least under control. A time when a foreign adventure becomes part of our routine again. The following destinations from luxury tour operator Lightfoot Travel are top of mind for when that happens.
Sri Lanka
This tiny island packs a huge punch in terms of diversity, from the Cultural Triangle and rolling tea country, to national parks full of wildlife, and the beautiful beaches that line its coast. One of the things we’re most excited about when we can travel again is getting the whole extended family or groups of friends together. The beautiful, fully catered private villas dotted around Sri Lanka are totally fit for this purpose.
Namibia
Namibia is Africa as you’d never expect, with towering sand dunes, desert-adapted wildlife, far-flung luxury camps and the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast. Whether you’ve visited the continent before or you’re a first-timer, the country will take your breath away. We also love that it somewhat flies under the radar making it less touristy than some of its more famous neighbours.
Greece
From arts and culture in Athens to beaches and nightlife on Santorini, Mykonos and Crete, Greece is a one-stop-shop for summer fun. Travel within the country is hassle-free, there’s a wide range of hotels and resorts from laidback to bling, depending on your preference, and the luxury villas are some of the best in Europe for multi-generational family getaways.
Maldives
After the countless stresses of COVID-19, many would love to just arrive at a holiday destination and do nothing for two weeks. If you’re looking to sleep, eat, relax and repeat, the Maldives is the place to be. Hotels are located on their own private islands and there are options for every type of traveller – from large resorts with kids’ clubs and plenty of activities for those hard-to-please teens, to smaller, more intimate properties that are better suited for an adults-only trip.
New Zealand
After a year of being stuck in one of the most densely populated cities in the world, rolling hills, big blue skies and pure fresh air are the things of dreams. Drive from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island on one of the world’s greatest road trips, passing volcanoes, fjords, lakes and beaches along the way. With its wildlife, adventure activities, food and wine culture, and truly spectacular luxury lodges, New Zealand takes the prize for best all-round travel destination.
Lightfoot Travel is a luxury tour operator with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and London specialising in designer holidays around the world.
